Things to see at Vivid with the kids
1/ Taronga Zoo
This is the perfect venue to explore Vivid, with giant light sculptures of endangered wildlife scattered through the zoo grounds. Last year Taronga Zoo amazed and delighted guests with it’s colossal animal sculptures. There is allocated tickets for this interactive and immersive event, so bookings are essential. Be sure to visit Taronga Zoo and meet a cast of captivating creatures.
2/ The Calyx
The Calyx is a unique venue within the Royal Botanic Gardens and on the doorstep of the Vivid Light Walk. Featuring their own Firefly installation within the venue’s winter floral exhibition, this is one venue to add to your Vivid schedule. The start of the light walk is minutes from the venue and the light walk itself includes12 stunning light installations scattered through the gardens.
3/ Luna Park
On the water’s edge in Milson’s Point, Luna Park offers incredible views of the Sydney Harbour. If you are looking to escape the crowds, we suggest booking dinner at The Deck and enjoy the Vivid light show as the background to your dinner.
4/ Sydney Bridge Climb
You can now experience Vivid like never before with a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. You can literally see all of the lights from the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge and dance on the 70’s style disco floor (just for something completely different). This very special experience and includes a souvenir photograph. Perfect for the mums with older kids – they’ll be forced to leave their phones in a locker and really experience their surrounds without Snapchatting about it! Or this one would be a great option without the kids too if you wanted some real peace and quiet.
5/ Royal Botanic Gardens
If you are looking for Instagram worthy pics, the Royal Botanic Gardens is the place to go. With interactive displays throughout the garden, this is one of the most beautiful spaces to see Sydney lit up. Really easy to get around with a pram too!
6/ Street Food Live
Australia’s largest street food festival for all things delicious, deep fried, coated in sugar or cheese goodness. Perfect dinner location for the family as everyone can get what they want without the fuss of making 22 different meals! Highly recommend Hungary Bites and their original Kurtos – Ice-cream donut cone! You can find more about them here.
